Screw pump
The pump screw is an elementary device used to lift a liquid, or a sandy, gravel, or crushed material . The machine consists of a large screw placed inside a tube. The lower part of the tube is immersed in water (or in what it has to lift), after which, by causing rotation of the screw, each step collects a certain quantity of liquid, which is raised along the spiral until exiting from the top, where it is discharged into a basin of accumulation. The contact between the screw and the tube need not to be watertight, because the quantity of water raised at each turn is high compared to possible losses. In addition, the filtered water from a step ends in a lower step that uplifts it and so on, limiting the loss of overall efficiency.
